Pregnancy Acupuncture

Targeted, clinically informed acupuncture for specific pregnancy concerns - led by a midwife.

Acupuncture at Birth Boutique is offered during pregnancy to support a small number of specific concerns where it may be appropriate. Treatment is always guided by consultation, clinical judgement, and an understanding of pregnancy physiology.

This is focused, considered care - not general wellbeing acupuncture.

Each appointment is shaped around your pregnancy, your symptoms, and what feels appropriate and safe at that time.

Acupuncture Therapy Session

Is pregnancy acupuncture safe?

It’s very natural to have questions about acupuncture during pregnancy.

At Birth Boutique, acupuncture is offered only for specific pregnancy-related concerns, where it may be appropriate and beneficial. These include pregnancy nausea, back pain and sciatica, support when hoping to avoid induction of labour, and moxibustion for breech presentation.

All acupuncture treatments are provided by a registered midwife and are guided by consultation and clinical assessment. Whether acupuncture is suitable for you depends on your individual circumstances and the stage of your pregnancy, and this is carefully reviewed before treatment.

Acupuncture is never offered routinely or without consideration. If acupuncture is not appropriate for your situation, we will talk this through with you and explore other supportive options where possible.

Your safety, comfort and confidence in your care are always the priority.

What happens during your consultation and appointment

Acupuncture appointments begin with a consultation to ensure treatment is appropriate and safe for you during pregnancy.

A consultation form is completed at the time of booking and reviewed in advance of your appointment, allowing care to be guided by clinical assessment rather than routine treatment.

If acupuncture isn’t appropriate for you at that time, we’ll be in touch to talk this through and discuss alternative support where possible.

For moxibustion for breech presentation, appointments focus on assessment, explanation and teaching.

You’ll be shown how to carry out moxibustion safely at home, with guidance tailored to your pregnancy. Moxibustion is not performed during the appointment.

Moxibustion for breech presentation

Moxibustion for breech presentation at Birth Boutique is offered as a home visit between 32 and 37 weeks of pregnancy, and is guided by midwife-led assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

The appointment includes:

  • A full antenatal check

  • Discussion of your pregnancy and baby’s position

  • Guidance on alternative positions and movements that may encourage turning

  • Teaching and support on how to carry out moxibustion safely at home

  • Time to talk through options if your baby remains breech at 37 weeks

Moxibustion is taught and guided, rather than performed during the appointment, so you feel confident continuing safely at home.
