Hypnobirthing, explained simply

A calm, evidence-based approach to preparing for birth - integrated into antenatal care

What hypnobirthing really is

Hypnobirthing is often misunderstood.

It isn't about avoiding pain relief, having a 'perfect birth', or controlling what happens.

At its core, hypnobirthing focuses on:

  • Understanding how birth works

  • Reducing fear and anxiety

  • Supporting calm decision-making

  • Helping you feel informed and prepared, whatever your birth pathway

When fear is reduced, the body is better able to work with labour - whether birth unfolds straightforwardly or with medical support.

What hypnobirthing is not

Hypnobirthing is not:

  • A promise of a particular type of birth

  • About refusing medical care

  • About positive thinking or visualisation alone

  • Only for homebirth or unmedicated birth

It can be used alongside:

  • Induction of labour

  • Epidurals and other pain relief

  • Planned or unplanned caesarean birth
